  • VeChain has maintained its status as a blockchain to drive the growth of sustainable systems.
  • The blockchain is tipped to play a role in selective membrane technology.

During a discussion with Dutch Blockchain Days, Antonio Senatore, the Chief Technology Officer at VeChain, revealed how the platform plans to partner with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in its drive for sustainable development.

According to Senatore, VeChain intends to onboard a billion users to blockchain via a “blockchain biosphere” approach.

Based on a blog post released by a VeChain Steering Committee member, lecturer, physicist, and 2D Materials researcher, Professor Qi Ge, the work of biologists has always fascinated other scientists, especially physicists.

He went on to talk about biological membranes as structures that hold revolutionary potential for our technical capabilities. Membranes are designed in such a way that they create a demarcation between organs and control the flow of chemicals in and out of a cell, this ability is called selective permeability.

On that premise, Professor Qi Ge is working on a new industrial revolution dubbed “smart membrane”. The smart membrane is an innovation that does not need computers or sensors to run but is contended to be more energy efficient than most existing technologies. It can be made with different materials to give a range of outcomes.

VeChain Use Cases in Membrane Technology

The VeChain researcher believes that there is a very high possibility that workplace safety can be enhanced through the use of a specially designed smart membrane that can respond to atmospheric fluctuations like humidity, temperature, or pressure changes. Hence, when there is an adverse climate change that may interfere with industrial operations and handling, machinery is automatically shut down to prevent the loss of lives.

Another use case of this smart membrane may be to avoid a catastrophic lithium battery failure in an electric vehicle. Once the smart membrane detects a chemical change, it would react and shut down the system before any unfortunate outcomes occur.

Bringing this innovation down to VeChainThor, it can synchronize the control and registration of membrane production directly with the blockchain, bringing about the monitoring and verification of membrane performance in real time. Ultimately, this would help provide insights into the health status of industrial machines and smart tech. Also, with the VeChain capability, gaseous emissions and any other required details can be tracked.

Once this is achieved, VeChain would have hit another milestone of going greener. Some of the possible advantages of utilizing smart membrane in collaboration with VeChain’s blockchain technology would be the filtration of seawater, the harvest of Hydrogen, desalination, and many others.

In the end, it is believed that the introduction of this membrane technology will fix VeChainThor at the center of the global network of nanomaterials, monitoring, logging, and tracking industrial data in real time.

Already, VeChain has begun to bag deals with market leaders in the nano-materials industry as well as other sustainability-inclined enterprises. Meanwhile, there is an upcoming master class to discuss the tagged ” Web3.0 For Sustainability” coming up. Senatore and other VeChain executives would be shedding more light on building sustainable Decentralized Applications (DApps).
