Back in 2014, the concept of meme token was literal. Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin were the top crypto assets and as a parody, Bill Markus and Jackson Palmer created Dogecoin. Back then, the founders created the payments system as a joke, mocking the cryptocurrency industry. And a joke it was through the first bullish rally of 2017. However, come 2021, Dogecoin was no longer a ‘silly project’ as it surged by a whopping 5600% in the first two quarters. It led to the rise of other meme tokens, with Shiba Inu being the next most popular in the section.

However, with the rise of these tokens, its loyal followers have also grown in masses, and toxicity has evidently remained in the landscape of digital asset.

Shiba Inu vs Dogecoin; Cut from the same fabric but divided by owners?

Both Shiba Inu and Dogecoin investors have capitalized on a huge rally in 2021. While Dogecoin is up by 2555% at press time, SHIB token registered a 1000% return at the moment. Both these assets reached new all-time highs as illustrated in the charts, but their individual communities have been at each other’s neck over the course of 2021.

Crypto toxicity on Twitter is extremely common, which has earlier been observed with Bitcoin maximalists. However, in 2021, it might have been apparent with other Altcoin loyalists as well and one of the Dogecoin founders, had a lot to say.

Insensitive and Brash is not the way to go?

The commotion arised recently after Bill Markus complained on Twitter about SHIB’s promotional threads on the socal media platform.

The discussions were neutral until Markus started receiving distasteful commentary from the Shiba community. Markus let it all out in the public, stating,

“I don’t care if what crypto you buy or sell or like. It means absolutely nothing to me. I don’t care if it’s dogecoin, Ethereum, inubuttface, whatever. It has no bearing on the quality of your character. – I do care if you’re an asshole to me.”

He additonally added that he did not like the Shiba community because its members often went out of their way to insult and harass his opinions. However, Markus made it clear that his loyalty did not reside with Dogecoin either. He mentioned,

The above discussion only leads to the fact that crypto communities remain extremely intolerant to other growing protocols. It was observed before between Bitcoin and Ethereum proponents, now it is unfolding among smaller Altcoins.
