Twitter and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced a new AI-powered chatbot called TruthGPT, according to a report from FOX News on April 17.

Musk announces TruthGPT

During an interview with host Tucker Carlson, Musk said that he plans to create a “truth-seeking” AI that is designed to understand the nature of the universe.

Musk said that this approach could result in safe AI that is unlikely to annihilate humanity thanks to what he calls humanity’s important place in the universe.

The new AI has more immediate goals as well. Musk reportedly suggested during the interview that ChatGPT’s left-wing developers have programmed their chatbots to “lie.” In a framing segment, Carlson expressed concerns that AI could impact elections.

Presumably, TruthGPT could counterbalance AI programs with left-wing bias — though Musk’s product in turn will undoubtedly be accused of having a right-wing bias.

Carlson additionally noted that Musk was involved in funding the competing AI chatbot ChatGPT. The host argued that Musk wanted to have control over the project but that Microsoft and Google gained corporate ownership. (In fact, Google and Microsoft are only investors in — not owners of — ChatGPT parent firm OpenAI).

Further details on TruthGPT are not yet available. The full interview will air at 8 p.m. ET.

Musk recently announced AI company

On April 15, it was reported that Musk had registered a new company called X.AI. Though that company seemingly has been created to work with artificial intelligence products, it is ultimately unclear whether TruthGPT will be developed by the firm.

Musk also signed a public letter with other experts on March 22. That letter aims to slow AI development in order to reduce risk — a goal in line with Musk’s TruthGPT project.

Musk has not publicly announced TruthGPT or the newly registered company.
