DFinity founder proposes a $250M idea to end the Ukraine invasion

• According to Dominic Williams, as little as $50 in crypto could convince millions of Russians to risk getting attention from the authorities.

Dominic Williams, President and chief scientist at DFinity Foundation, has outlined a proposal on how to end the war in Ukraine by incentivizing Russians with crypto to watch well-crafted videos of the ongoing war. According to Dominic, the use of smart contracts on the internet computer could help reach misinformed Russians and perhaps end the war by exerting more pressure on the Kremlin. Dominic noted in a Medium post;

Using smart contracts to pay millions of Russians crypto to take the risk of watching a well-crafted informational video that explains the real situation in Ukraine would make a powerful contribution to ending this calamity and achieving change,

According to Dominic Williams, as little as $50 could motivate millions of Russians to confront the Kremlin to end the war in Ukraine.

I would recommend paying participants $50 in crypto for each video that they watch, making up for the risk that they are later targeted by Russian security services. If the scheme succeeds in attracting 5,000,000 people, from major metropolitan areas (there are technical reasons why participation will be easier in such places), who would then further share the video and ideas and information contained, then crypto worth $250,000,000 must be disbursed,

Role of crypto and blockchain in Dominic Williams’ idea to end Ukraine war

For the idea to materialize, Dominic proposed the use of a DAO to manage the funds through well-secured smart contracts. Nonetheless, there are technical challenges that need to be addressed before actualizing the idea, some of which ICP is working on. 

On the top list of technical challenges is the use of the virtual people parties framework, which runs from the Internet Computer blockchain but remains in the alpha stage. Currently, streaming video into Safari on iOS using the WebRTC standard is the main hindrance that needs to be addressed.
