  • io.net is a decentralized cloud computing network designed to grant access to GPUs.
  • The platform offers io.net cloud, io.net explorer and io.worker as its defined value propositions.

io.net is a Solana, Render, Ray, and Filecoin-powered decentralized computing network that addresses the challenges faced by machine learning engineers in accessing distributed cloud clusters. The platform is designed to provide scalable, cost-effective, and easily accessible computing resources for tasks such as training, inference, hyperparameter tuning, and reinforcement learning.

One of the main issues faced by users in traditional cloud services is the long wait times, limited hardware choices, and high costs associated with access to Graphic Processing Units (GPUs). Io.net came up with a disruptive solution to this challenge by aggregating GPUs from diverse sources, including independent data centers, crypto miners, and crypto projects, creating a unified platform with a variety of options for users.

io.net introduces the concept of a Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN) that combines resources from various providers, enabling engineers to access substantial computing power in a customizable, cost-efficient, and easily implementable system.

io.net is multi-functional as it manages many of the key cloud-computing processes. These include orchestration, scheduling, fault tolerance, and scaling, providing a versatile solution for Python workloads and general-purpose computation.

History, Evolution, and Value Offering

io.net traces its roots back to the Solana Hackathon in February 2023, originally focusing on institutional-grade quantitative trading systems.

The team’s encounter with Ray.io, an open-source library, revolutionized their approach by reducing infrastructure development time. The platform evolved from an internal solution for low-latency distributed computing to a broader offering addressing the GPU shortage in the public cloud.

io.net’s value proposition lies in offering massive computing power, flexibility, accessibility, cost efficiency, high security, reliability, and ease of deployment. The business model revolves around connecting GPU seekers with providers, charging a fee for each computer job.

With its growth thus far, io.net aims to be associated with the term “DePIN” and positions itself as the bridge between AI and crypto. The platform aspires to become the “currency of AI,” emphasizing its pivotal role in the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence with an intersection of blockchain.

Specifically, it offers 3 key products all dedicated to serving its users. These products are;

IO.NET Cloud: allows users to access GPU

IO.NET Worker: allows users to contribute their GPUs to the network

IO.Net Explorer: to access real time transaction and network data.

Key Features of io.net

Scalability: In order not to become its centralized peers, io.net has designed its platform to the highly scalable to meet its client’s bandwidth

io.net enables teams to scale workloads across a network of GPUs with minimal adjustments, handling orchestration, scheduling, fault tolerance, and scaling seamlessly.

Batch Inference and Model Serving: The platform supports parallelized inference on data batches, allowing machine learning teams to deploy workflows across a distributed GPU network.

Parallel Training: As its solution to overcome memory limitations and sequential workflows, io.net leverages distributed computing libraries to parallelize training jobs across multiple devices.

Parallel Hyperparameter Tuning: Taking advantage of the inherently parallel nature of hyperparameter tuning experiments, io.net optimizes scheduling and search patterns.

Reinforcement Learning (RL): Leveraging an open-source reinforcement learning library, io.net supports highly distributed RL workloads with simple APIs.

Benefits for Consumers

To create value for its customers, here are some of the designated benefits io.net offers;

Massive Compute Power: io.net offers distributed machine learning engineers access to hundreds of thousands of GPUs with just a click, overcoming the limitations of public cloud GPU shortages.

Flexibility and Scalability: io.net has introduced the element of choice for users it plans to onboard. As such, users have unparalleled flexibility to choose from the best GPUs globally and customize parameters like security, connectivity, and location.

Instant Accessibility: Unlike traditional cloud services with lengthy deployment times, io.net Cloud provides instant access to GPU supply, enabling users to kickstart their projects within seconds.

Cost Efficiency: io.net is designed as a budget-friendly platform for different categories of users. At the moment, the platform is about 90% more cost-effective than competing services, offering significant savings for machine learning projects.

High Security and Reliability: The platform promises best-in-class security, reliability, and technical support, ensuring a secure and stable environment for machine learning tasks.

Ease of Implementation: io.net Cloud eliminates the complexity of building and managing infrastructure, enabling any developer and organization to develop and scale AI applications seamlessly.

Achievements and Partnerships

The team has achieved significant milestones, including partnerships with Anyscale, Ludwig, Render, Filecoin, and Latitude.

These collaborations extend io.net’s reach into Machine Learning (ML) model deployment, rendering, decentralized storage, and GPU supply. The team’s accomplishments also include hiring experienced professionals and securing funding from investors like Solana Ventures, Multicoin Capital, and Otoy.

Leadership Team

The leadership team, led by Co-Founder and CEO Ahmad Shadid, boasts a diverse set of skills and experiences. COO Tory Green, with over 20 years of experience, and CMO Laura K. Inamedinova, a recognized figure in blockchain-focused marketing, contribute to the company’s success.

Roadmap and Future Plans

The near-term plans for io.net include expanding services to allow users to build, host, and monetize their ML models. This indicates a commitment to continual innovation and growth.

Competitors

Primary competitors to io.net include Amazon Web Services (AWS), Paperspace, Google Cloud Platform, Vast.ai, Oracle Cloud, Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud, and Lambda.

io.net showcases significant advances over Azure, one of its closest competitors. Against the Azure T40 engine that offers a storage space of 16 GB, io.net RTX 3090 offers 25 GB. Comparatively as well, while Azure’s TeraFLOPS comes in at 8.1, that of io.net is 35.58.

Owners of GPU can contribute their storage spaces to the network and earn rewards for doing so.
